Um ausländische Kapitalmärkte effizient zu nutzen, ist es erforderlich, den Kapitalgebern weltweit vergleichbare, entscheidungsrelevante und zeitnahe Finanzinformationen zur Verfügung zu stellen.

Dies ist jedoch durch die unterschiedlichen Börsenzulassungsbestimmungen nicht ohne weiteres möglich, da die zuständige Börsenzulassungsbehörde, die Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), ausländische Jahresabschlüsse nicht akzeptiert.

Mit dieser Arbeit soll das Wesen der stillen Reserven erläutert werden. Zunächst sollen die einzelnen Kategorien der stillen Reserven aufgelistet werden. Ferner werden deren Bildungsursachen, durch Ansatz- und Bewertungsvorschriften und -wahlrechten im HGB überprüft. Um einen Eindruck über die Möglichkeiten von stillen Reserven bei Bilanzierung nach IAS zu erhalten, werden die Grundlagen und Ziele dieses Rechnungslegungssystem vorgestellt und nach möglichen stillen Reserven überprüft.

Um wesentliche Unterschiede der Bildung stiller Reserven nach HGB und IAS zu zeigen, wird auf die immateriellen Wirtschaftsgüter und die Rückstellungen näher eingegangen. Schließlich soll dann gezeigt werden, dass stille Reserven auch nach IAS nicht zu verhindern sind.

Abschließend enthält der Anhang neben den wesentlichen Vorschriften nach HGB und IAS im Vergleich, auch eine Übersicht der Existenzmöglichkeiten stiller Reserven im Jahresabschluß nach HGB und IAS.
