Die große Liebe zur Musik – vor allem zu Richard Wagner – hat meinen Vater und mich immer verbunden. Wenn wir Tristan und Isolde in Bayreuth sahen und nach der Vorstellung das Licht anging, saßen wir beide tränenüberströmt im Festspielhaus. Wir heulten tatsächlich beide an den exakt gleichen Stellen. „Herrlich wäre, als berühmter Dirigent Tristan und Isolde zu dirigieren und dabei zu sterben“ sagte er nicht nur einmal. Die Alternative wäre für ihn nur der Sekundentod an der Schreibmaschine gewesen. Als Dirigent hatte es ihm vor allem Karajan angetan, er verehrte ihn zutiefst, besaß alle Alben. Und wenn er eine Schreiblockade hatte, legte er eine Platte auf und dirigierte mit. Zum Beispiel eines seiner Lieblingsstücke, das Klavierkonzert Nr. 1 von Tschaikowsky. Es war also klar, dass irgendwann diese Liebe in einem Roman zu Papier gebracht werden musste. Das gestohlene Glück handelt von einer Dreiecksgeschichte in der Musikwelt um die Frau des Dirigenten Bernd Donani, der unter anderen das Philharmonische Orchester Paris dirigierte. Mein Vater bekam böse Leserbriefe, dass es weder den Dirigenten noch das Orchester gäbe. Er schrieb in der Regel nur sehr gut recherchierte Geschichten, der Leser konnte sich fast immer darauf verlassen, dass die Wirkungsstätten seiner handelnden Personen bis ins kleinste Detail stimmten. In Paris gibt es aber das Orchestre de Paris und das Philharmonieorchester Radio Frankreich. Für seinen Roman Das gestohlene Glück hat mein Vater die Freiheit des Schriftstellers in Anspruch genommen.
