"Ist dir das Wasser drüben im Freibad zu kalt?"
Sebastian schüttelt den Kopf. Verlegen wedelt er mit seinem Beutel. "Ich... Ich will mich hier anmelden." Seine Stimme klingt schroff, als habe ihm sein Gegenüber an der Nase gezupft.
"Aha." Der Mann schmunzelt weiter. "Sicher bist du schon geschwommen, oder?"
"Oft!" Sebastian nickt eifrig. "In den Ferien manchmal jeden Tag. Und dann nach meinem Unfall beim Behindertenschwimmen."
"Körperbehindert?" Der Graukopf wird nachdenklich.
"Mir fehlt ein halber Fuß."
"Und Wettkämpfe? Ich meine, beim Behindertensport?"
"Nein, eigentlich nicht. Ich bin... war Turner."
"Aha." Das Lächeln des Mannes erlischt. Er zieht einen Schlüssel aus der Tasche und öffnet die Glastür. Erst nachdem er den Mädchen und Jungen am Becken ein paar Anweisungen zugerufen hat, widmet er sich wieder dem jungen Besucher. "Ich glaube, hier bist du nicht am richtigen Platz, mein Junge."
"Wegen meines Fußes? Weil ich damit beim Sprung vom Startblock Schwierigkeiten habe?"
"Zum Beispiel."
"Und Rückenschwimmen? Da wird doch im Wasser gestartet. Kein Sprung. Ich strenge mich bestimmt an, echt!"
"Trotzdem." Das kleine Wort des Graukopfes ist welk wie ein gestorbenes Blatt. Es fällt ihm sichtlich schwer, auszusprechen, was seiner Meinung nach jetzt gesagt werden muss. "Und dann bist du für den Wettkampfsport im Schwimmen auch schon ziemlich alt."
"Alt? In zwei Monaten werde ich dreizehn." Er schaut hinüber in die Halle. "Dort sind ein paar dabei, die gehen schon in die neunte oder zehnte Klasse."
"Stimmt." Der Graukopf nickt. "Die haben gemeinsam sechs Landesmeistertitel und zweimal Bronze bei der Europameisterschaft. Keiner, der nicht schon mindestens fünf Jahre hart trainiert hat."
