Sinopsis

Enrique Sabas, guionista de cine, y su mujer, Margaret, diseñadora gráfica, tienen dos hijos y llevan una vida acomodada en Nueva York. Tras treinta años de matrimonio y alcanzada una estabilidad que parecía imposible, la pareja lleva tres años luchando contra el cáncer que ella padece y que ha entrado en fase terminal.

Margaret prepara su despedida de familiares y amigos ayudada por Enrique, quien durante estos últimos y extraños días va reconstruyendo la historia del matrimonio: la época en la que se conocieron, el desarrollo de sus vocaciones artísticas, el nacimiento de sus hijos, los altibajos de su relación… Los recuerdos de su vida en común y la intensidad de su despedida nos muestran la complejidad de una relación duradera.

En esta novela parcialmente autobiográfica, una de las sorpresas de la literatura norteamericana reciente y Premio Los Angeles Times 2009 a la mejor novela, Yglesias nos habla con valentía y sinceridad de temas universales: del amor, del dolor ante la proximidad de la muerte y del misterio que supone compartir la vida con otra persona.

Biografía de la autora

Rafael Yglesias, novelista y guionista norteamericano, nació en 1954 y creció en el barrio de Washington Heights, Manhattan. Hijo de escritores, dejó el instituto para terminar su primera novela, que publicó con diecisiete años. Tres años más tarde y tras haber publicado tres novelas, abandonó una prometedora carrera literaria para dedicarse a escribir guiones cinematográficos, algunos de los cuales serían dirigidos por Peter Weir, Roman Polanski, Billie August y Walter Salles, entre otros. Retomaría su carrera literaria a mediados de los ochenta, alternándola con su trabajo de guionista. Entre sus novelas destacan Fearless (1993), Dr. Neruda’s Cure For Evil (1996) y Un matrimonio feliz (2009), que fue galardonada con el Premio Los Angeles Times 2009 a la mejor novela.
