Diese gesellschaftliche Realität wird vor allem an Hand der Figuren aufgezeigt - wie diese handeln, denken und was sie auszeichnet - indem unter anderem ein Blick auf mythologische Verknüpfungen geworfen wird.
Um den Park besser einordnen zu können, soll in einem ersten Schritt dessen Vorlage, der Sommernachtstraum von Shakespeare, unter dem Aspekt der inhaltlichen Parallelen zwischen beiden Komödien betrachtet werden, wobei die theatrum–mundi Vorstellung einen besonderen Stellenwert einnimmt. Als nächstes wird der Stadtpark als Schauplatz, an dem das Drama sich abspielt, untersucht. Des Weiteren soll auf die Personenkonstellationen eingegangen werden. Hierbei stehen die die Figuren bewegende Motive, ihre Beziehungen untereinander und die Symbole, die sich in den Personen und den Beziehungen zueinander spiegeln, im Vordergrund. Zur besseren Übersichtlichkeit werden die Personen in drei Gruppen unterteilt: Die Götter und ihr Gehilfe Cyprian, die beiden Paare Georg/Helen und Wolf/Helma und schließlich die Jugendlichen und das Komikerduo Erstling/Höfling. Anschließend wird gezeigt, wie Strauß durch die Einbindung des Mythos in die Alltagswirklichkeit versucht, die Gesellschaft mit ihren Unzulänglichkeiten zu kritisieren. Diese Unzulänglichkeiten, die man unter dem Begriff der Entfremdung zusammenfassen kann, offenbaren sich in der Lieb- und Leidenschaftslosigkeit und der Kunst- und Zeitvergessenheit der Gesellschaft, die abschließend behandelt werden.
