Während zeitlich parallel entstandene Subkulturen inzwischen längst wieder verschwunden sind, haben sich die Psychobilly seit über zwanzig Jahren behauptet und sind darüber hinaus zu einem international expandierten Subkulturstil gewachsen. Angesichts dieser Tatsache ist es verwunderlich, wie wenig diese Subkultur in der wissenschaftlichen Literatur erwähnt wird. Diese Arbeit gibt einen groben Überblick über die Subkultur der Psychobilly. Zuerst wird auf die Entstehung und die historischen Einflüsse dieser Musikrichtung eingegangen, des weiteren stelle ich eine repräsentative Musikgruppe vor. Danach erläutere ich die Entstehung von Subkulturen im Allgemeinen und gebe eine mögliche Antwort auf die Frage, warum Jugendliche diese Art von Jugendkulturen brauchen bzw. sich von ihnen angezogen fühlen. Diese Denkansätze beziehe ich direkt auf die von mir untersuchte Subkultur der Psychobilly. Hier gehe ich noch einmal auf die Besonderheiten dieser Subkultur und ihrer Anhänger ein. Die Arbeit endet mit Auszügen und aktuellen Beispielen dieser Subkultur. Das eigentliche Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, dem Leser die grobe Konstruktion der Subkultur der Psychobilly transparent zu machen und erste wissenschaftliche Interpretationsansätze und Deutungen zu geben.
