Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1, Aalborg Universitet (Institut für Kultur und Globalen Studien), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Vielen Interpretationen haben schon die erotischen Elemente in Arthur Schnitzlers Traumnovelle dargelegt. In dieser Analyse wird aber näher auf Elemente eingegangen, die als nicht-erotisch bezeichnet werden können. Es soll vorgeschlagen werden, dass man die Novelle eher im Licht von Ethik und Humanismus als im Licht von Eros und Trieb sehen kann. Am ersten Blick mag ein solcher Vorschlag merkwürdig vorkommen: Albertines Traum ist unverhohlen erotisch, Albertine und Fridolin erzählen einander erotische Fantasien, und in der Villa wird Fridolin orgiastischen Geschlechtsverkehr mit sadomasochistischen Untertönen ausgesetzt. Aber sonst? Inwiefern sind Fridolins übrige Erlebnisse in der ersten Nacht erotisch? Und wie ist es mit dem zweiten Tag/der zweiten Nacht? Wie hängen eigentlich Fridolins Erlebnisse am zweiten Tag mit Albertines Traum zusammen? Und schlieβlich: Beinhaltet das angeblich glückliche Ende erotische Versprechen, oder zielt Schnitzler auf etwas anderes? In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird versucht, auf diese Fragen näher einzugehen.
Keineswegs soll hier bestritten werden, dass “Unterdrückung der weiblichen Sexualität” und “Verborgene Lüste in der bürgerlichen Ehe” wichtige Motive in Traumnovelle sind . Nur soll hier darauf hingewiesen werden, dass die Novelle zusätzlich eine Reihe von nicht-erotischen Motiven beinhaltet, die wenigstens so wichtig sind wie die erotischen Motive. In dieser Hinsicht ist diese Arbeit besonders von zwei Literaturwissenschaftlern beeinflusst, und zwar William Rey, der die Novelle in einem humanistisch/ethischen Licht liest, und Jill Scott, die die Novelle als Kommentar zur Ersten Republik Österreich versteht. Mit diesen Betrachtungen übereinstimmend, wird hier Fridolins Handlungen eher auf Ethik und Humanismus als auf Eifersucht und Rache basiert gesehen, seine Erlebnisse vor dem Traum werden als Kommentare zur dekadenten Donaumonarchie verstanden, und seine Erlebnisse nach dem Traum werden als Kommentar zur Neuen Österreichischen Republik verstanden.
Vor der eigentlichen Textanalyse werden kurz einige Bemerkungen zum Titel und zur Erzähltechnik gemacht, weil diese für die gesamte Analyse bedeutsam sind.
