Hierzu werden Beispiele aus der Automobilindustrie beschrieben, die Verbindungen zum soziotechnischen Ansatz deutlich machen. Zu diesem Zweck ist eine Darstellung der Entstehung und Entwicklung dieses Modells notwendig, da sich Gruppenarbeit als Arbeitsform in größeren Umfang erst durch die soziotechnische Systemgestaltung in industriellen Großbetrieben etablierte.
Von Interesse ist zudem, in welchem Umfang Veränderungen, die durch Einführung der Arbeitsform Gruppenarbeit eine Humanisierung der Arbeit bewirken sollen, tatsächlich erreicht werden. Bedeutsam ist diese Form der Gestaltung von flexiblen Arbeitssystemen in Hinblick auf immer komplexer werdende technische Systeme, die zunehmend höhere Anforderungen an Arbeitskräfte stellen.
Ob und in welchem Maß der soziotechnische Ansatz und die Gruppenarbeit als dessen wesentliche Arbeitsform diese Forderungen erfüllen können, soll in dieser Arbeit betrachtet werden.
