Es ist überaus ungewöhnlich, wie sich das ganze Drama auf die Schlüsselfigur des Hamlets hin organisiert. Ophelia fungiert als Zerrspiegel jener Schlüsselfigur. Der moralischen Problematik und dem daraus resultierenden inneren Konflikt des Kronprinzen, wird der Weg geebnet, selbst die eigene Vernunft in Frage zu stellen. Hamlet ist das figurale Zentrum des Dramas, um ihn herum ordnen sich alle Figuren, Horatio wird zum idealisierten moralischen Spiegelbild des Prinzen, Ophelia zu seinem zerstörten Zerrbild. Für diese Entwicklungen und Wandlungen ist die Suche nach Wahrheit und die Bedeutung der Vernunft, für diese, von enormer Wichtigkeit. Die Begegnung mit dem Wahnhaften scheint unvermeidbar und ist ebenso bedeutsam für die Liebesbeziehung von Hamlet und Ophelia, der ich mich in meinen Ausführungen ausführlich widmen werde. Außerdem werde ich beleuchten, inwieweit Shakespeare Vernunft und Wahnsinn miteinander verwoben hat, um Wirklichkeit zu verhüllen, um diese in einen transzendenten Moment, in der Innerlichkeit Hamlets in Frage zu stellen. Diesen Prozess erlebt vor allem Hamlet und doch hat er enorme Auswirkungen auf die Figuren um ihn, besonders für die ihn liebende Ophelia, deren Emotionalität und geistige Verfassung an die Handlungen des Prinzen gebunden sind. Ich werde versuchen, die Begriffs- und Werteverschiebungen, die sich in Hamlet vollziehen, transparenter erscheinen zu lassen und die Konsequenzen für den Verlauf des Dramas zu erörtern. Anhand der tragischen Gestalt Ophelias will ich den in ihm klaffenden Zusammenbruch, die Vermischung seiner beiden Sphären, der wirklichen und der unwirklichen, darlegen.
