Daran knüpfen ein kurzer Abriss über die Geschichte der Kältetherapie und Grundlagen der physikalischen Therapie an. Zudem werden gängige Techniken und Anwendungsgebiete der Kältetherapie dargestellt und erläutert. Anschließend werden neue Möglichkeiten der Chirurgie dargestellt, die durch die Kryotherapie eröffnet werden. Dargestellt werden sowohl die prä- als auch postoperative Kryotherapie, sowie die Kryochirurgie, die sich erst in jüngster Zeit herausgebildet hat.
