Die Bibel lieferte nicht nur Glaubensgrundsätze, sondern auch Regeln, Normen und Hilfestellungen für das alltägliche Leben. In der Bibel lassen sich allgemeingültige Aussagen über die Institution Ehe, als auch das familiäre Zusammenleben, finden, die auch heute noch von Bedeutung sein können. Nicht zuletzt beinhaltet eine Eheschließung oftmals auch heute noch einen kirchlichen Charakter. Selbst die Ehescheidung ist ein Sachverhalt, den die Bibel thematisiert und der schon in der Vergangenheit viel diskutiert und auch angewendet wurde. Deshalb ist es unerlässlich mit einer ausführlichen Begriffsbestimmung auch in soziologischer Hinsicht dieses Dokument in die Überlegungen miteinzubeziehen.
In diesem Sinne wird sich die vorliegende Arbeit zuerst mit grundlegenden Über-legungen zu Partnerschaft und Ehe beschäftigen, um zu Beginn die Begriffe konkret zu benennen und darauffolgend biblische Ansichten zu umreißen (Kap 2). Auch die Entwicklungsgeschichte von Ehe und Familie im 20. Und 21. Jahrhundert soll thematisiert werden, um das heutige Verständnis nachvollziehen und bewerten zu können (Kap.3). Die abschließende Schlussbetrachtung soll die Arbeit reflektieren, bewerten und schließlich auf den Punkt bringen (Kap.4).
