Da kann nur Königin Hecuba im Land Vive weiterhelfen, zu deren Burg die vier nach langer Wanderschaft und vielen Abenteuern gelangen. Damit der Portstein bei ihnen funktioniert, sind besondere Dinge erforderlich, die sie erst sammeln müssen: Straußeneierschale, Fledermäuse, Spinnenblut … Auf oft gefahrvolle Weise meistern sie diese Aufgaben. Zaubertränke und -sprüche schließlich ermöglichen die weitere Reise mit dem Portstein. Nur funktioniert der nicht wie erwartet. Statt zurück nach Schadanimo befördert er die Freunde stets woanders hin.
Egal wo sie landen, hängen sie eine Weile fest, erleben unglaubliche Abenteuer, begegnen scheußlichen Kreaturen, netten Elfen, Klagegeistern, Feen, Trollen, die die Elfenkönigin entführt haben. Sie gewinnen neue Freunde. Die Feen verbessern den Portstein - und nun funktioniert er, auch dank Zeldas magischen Fähigkeiten, wie gewünscht. Endlich landen sie wieder im Schadani-Dorf.
