Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2004 im Fachbereich Spanisch als Schulfach (s. auch Romanistik), Note: 2,5, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (Romanisches Seminar), Veranstaltung: Nominierung und Standardisierung: Spanisch, 14 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Alfonso X ging als ‚der Weise’ in die Geschichte ein, galt er doch als einer der gelehrtesten Herrscher seiner Zeit: Er förderte Künste und Wissenschaften, führte die Toledaner Übersetzerschule auf ihren Zenit und lies zum ersten Mal Texte ins Kastilische übersetzen. Um dieser Aufgabe gerecht zu werden, baute er das Kastilische zur Literatursprache aus und schuf im Zuge dessen das castellano drecho. Mit ihm, darin ist sich die Fachwelt einig, schlägt die „Geburtsstunde der kastilischen Prosa“ .
Um so verwunderlicher ist es, dass der „father of the Castilian prose“ in sprachhistorische Abhandlungen wenig Beachtung findet. Oft wird in diesen der Beginn des Spanischen als Literatursprache auf das Jahr 1492 mit dem Erscheinen der Grammatik Nebrijas festgelegt. Hans-Josef Niederehe versteht das mangelnde Interesse der Forschung an der Arbeit Alfonsos X als Reaktion auf das Fehlen sprachtheoretischen Abhandlungen seitens des Königs, die Aufschluss über seine sprachpolitischen Intensionen geben könnten. Ein wichtiger Grund könnte auch darin bestehen, dass Alfonsos sprachpolitische Intensionen dem heutigen Betrachter ein Rätsel aufgeben: Anstatt sich auf die Verwendung und Förderung des Kastilischen zu beschränken, lies er weiterhin Texte in andere Sprachen übersetzen. Er selbst beispielsweise dichtete in galizischer Mundart die Cantígas de Santa Maria, eine Sammlung von Marienliedern, die als persönlichstes Werk des Königs gelten. Dieses Faktum wird oft, wenn die Sprache auf Alfonso X kommt, übergangen.
Nach unserem heutigen Verständnis ist „[d]ie Literatursprache ist die am weitesten entwickelte, durch bewusste Normierung geprägte Form einer Nationalsprache.“ Daraus ergibt sich normalerweise der Konflikt, dass eine Sprache einseitig gefördert wird und dies zur Marginalisierung bzw. zur Verdrängung anderer Sprachen, führt. Mit diesem Thema beschäftigt sich auch die Europäische Union, da Minderheiten in Nationalstaaten Angst haben, im Zuge der Europäisierung ihre Identität, die für sie untrennbar an die Sprache gekoppelt ist, zu verlieren. Zur Sprachenfrage wurde bereits eine Reihe von Gesetzen erlassen, aber noch kein Nenner gefunden, auf den sich alle Beteiligten einigen konnten.
