Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2002 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Weltgeschichte - Frühgeschichte, Antike, Note: 2, Universität St. Gallen (Geschichte), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Möglichkeit, mündliche Rede und Gedanken in schriftlicher Form festzuhalten, stellt eine tiefgreifende Veränderung in der Lebenswelt des Menschen dar. Diese Entwicklung hat in Europa vor ca. 2500 Jahren stattgefunden. Die Schrift wurde zu einem allgemeinen Kulturgut im antiken Griechenland. Die gesprochene Sprache, welche vorher das allgemeine Kommunikationsmittel gewesen war, wurde durch sie abgelöst.

Mit Einführung der Schrift ist ein Speichermedium geschaffen worden, dass es den Menschen ermöglicht, von einer Gesellschaft niedergeschriebenes Wissen zu abstrahieren, weiterzuentwickeln und über Generationen hinweg zu speichern. Allerdings wurde diese revolutionäre Innovation schon bald nach ihrer breiten Einführung heftig kritisiert. Einer der bekanntesten Kritiker ist der Philosoph und Schüler des Sokrates, Platon.

Nach Ansicht Platons ist die niedergeschriebene Form der Rede der sprachlichen Rede hinten angestellt. Sie sei lediglich eine Kopie, eine „Art Abbild“ der „Rede des Wissenden [...]“. Diese Meinung vertritt Platon im „Phaidros“, ein Dialog zwischen Phaidros und dem Philosophen Sokrates.
